A Poem by Lauren Fisher

Unreachable.
The key to their heart
is an enigma
beyond your comprehension.
Though you try to understand
and they’ll let you flounder about,
because they want love too,
can you truly love them well and right?
Can you love them in the ways
that launches them to bask in their dreams?
Or will you love them only to hold them back?
They fear domestic life.
They fear daring to love
only to be pressured
to stay back, stay here,
stay with you.
Will you hug them goodbye
and say, “until I see you next.”
When they fly off
Do you know they are creating
the world they’re meant to know?
Will you wave?
Will you both cry?
Yet know,
somehow,
it will be okay.
They’re embracing wild realities
and whenever they come home,
you’ll be there
to welcome
with a hug
and a cup of tea.
“Thank you,” they’ll say.
“Thank you for loving me,
for letting me go,
and embracing me
each time I come back.”
That’s they kind of the love they need.
Are you able to match that fire?
It’s a wild type,
destinies born,
prophesying wonders
to challenge current reality.
It’s an opportunity to realize
infinite lives
we couldn’t give ourselves permission
to know before.
“I love you.”
This love is timeless,
This love is placeless.
Can you love them like that?
